Animation studio Production Reed (http://www.pro-reed.com/) has plans to revive its classic 1980s magical girl anime series Fairy Princess Minky Momo (http://www.pro-reed.com/works/tv_series/w009.html). Production Reed produced the Minky Momo beginning with the 1991 second television series.

The new work will serve as a “prologue” to the 30th anniversary of the original 1982-1983 television series. The most recent major new Minky Momo anime was Production Reed’s 1994 Minky Momo in Tabidachi no Eki OVA.


Tales of Vesperia Anime Movie Announced
Kanta Kamei, animation director of the fourth Digimon movie, has been signed by Kadokawa Pictures to direct an anime feature film adaptation of Namco’s Xbox 360 RPG Tales of Vesperia (http://namco-ch.net/talesofvesperia/index.php). This will be the fifth title in Namco’s “Tales” RPG game franchise to get an anime adaptation.


Kimi ni Todoke Anime Announced
Bessatsu Margaret magazine, which has serialized Karuho Shiina’s shoujo manga Kimi ni Todoke since 2005, has announced the development of an anime adaptation of the story about a blossoming love between a misunderstood high school girl and a popular boy.


Needless anime might be true
Moon Phase Diary fan site reports (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/moonphase/20090207#p1) the unconfirmed rumor that Imai Kami’s (http://imaikami.cool.ne.jp/) “bishoujo violence” action/comedy/sci-fi manga series Needless (http://www.s-manga.net/comics/cm_20040618_uj_yjc_4088766342_needless-1k.html) will be adapted into an anime television series directed by Masayuki Sakoi.
The 2004 and ongoing manga serial focuses on youngsters that have developed superhuman powers due to living in prohibited polluted areas of Japan following World War III.


Sora no Otoshimono anime in development
Suu Minazuki’s “heartful comedy” manga series Sora no Otoshimono has announced that the series will be adapted into an anime. The series relays the story of a middle school boy who encounters an attractive female angel that literally falls out of the sky.


Seitokai no Ichizon TV Anime Confirmed
Aoi’s Hekiyo Gakuen Seitokaigi Jiroku light novel series has announced that the series will be adapted into an anime television series. The lighthearted novel series about a single boy elected to join his school’s all female student council.


Crazy Cat Lady Anime Announced
Japanese publisher Enterbrain has announced (http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/jp/p_pickup/2008/kuruneko3/#anime) that Kuruneko Yamato’s popular autobiographical manga series Kuruneko will be adapted into an anime.


Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Chokoku no Jiku e
The official Japanese Pocket Monster Movies homepage revealed the title, release date, and a first look at the 2009 movie that will conclude the storyline begun in the 2007 & 2008 films. Pocket Monster Diamond & Pearl: Chokoku no Jiku e will premiere on July 18, 2009.


Sex Pistols OVA Announced
Reportedly an OVA adaptation of Tarako Kotobuki’s yaoi manga series Sex Pistols is now early in development. The 2003 sci-fi story deals with romantic relationships between human men that evolved from animals besides monkeys, such as leopards and bears.


Minami-ke OVA Announced?
Japan’s 2 Channel message board claims that the sixth volume of Coharu Sakuraba’s Minami-ke manga, scheduled for Japanese release on June 23, will be released in a limited edition that includes an original 25 minute anime OVA animated by asread, the studio behind the second and upcoming third Minami-ke television series.
