ヾ( ' - '*) Okay, almost all of us learned our first Japanese word from a certain cartoon character who speaks a language different from ours ne?
So I... σ(∧_∧;) ...was just wondering what's your first.

Mine would be the magic word: 'arigato'.

Oh... well, I'd say "Ohayo", though I learned it from my mother, she studied japanese for 7-8 year. :)

Fortunately I inherited all her dictionaries and books :p

Well that's marvelous~ (*゚ー゚) My aunt gave me her elementary books but I don't read them much because of being busy. I think Japanese is easy even if you self-teach yourself.

Besides Konnichiwa, the first word I learned was 'tada' which means free. I then taught it to my mom because she loves that word in English.

I don't remember for sure, probably "ohayou" or "arigatou" or something like that. Actually, come to think of it, it was probably "sensei"!

The first Japanese word I knew was "bakayarou"... a distant cousin of mine came back from many years in Japan one day when I was 5 and taught me that. In fact, that was probably the first Japanese word most of my immediate family members knew since I wasn't the only one there when my cousin mentioned it.

I think my first word was "sayonara". I wish I could study Japanese for real :( I've learned to read and write katakana (and that helps a lot) but that's all, trying to learn hiragana now but kanji is totally out of my possibilities *dies*
