View Full Version : Anime to be Eligible for Japan`s Oscar Equivalent

Other Japan Academy Prizes include Picture of the Year, Director of the Year, Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, etc...

The nominations for the Animation of the Year for 2006 were announced on December 19, they are:


Arashi no Yoruni
Gedo Senki
Toki wo Kakeru Shojo
Brave Story
Detective Conan 10TH Movie Tantei Tachi no Requiem

The winners will be announced on February 16.

Howl's Moving Castle, Studio Ghibli film, was nominated for Best Animated Feature at 78th Academy Awards.

Nominees for the 31st annual Japan Academy Prize (http://www.japan-academy-prize.jp/allprizes/2008/index.html) awards were announced yesterday. The five anime films nominated for recognition as 2007 best anime feature are:

Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Jou
Kappa no Coo to Natsuyasumi
Tekkon Kinkreet
Piano no Mori
Meitantei Conan: Konpeki no Jolly Roger

On a related note, Eiji Wentz is nominated for recognition as "Rookie of the Year" for his role as Kitaro in the 2007 live action Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro movie adaptation of Mizuki Shigeru's manga.

Winners will be announced on February 15, 2008.

You mean the American Academy Awards had an animation category BEFORE Japan, the creators of anime?! :crazy:
I am shocked, shocked I say! My only comment is: It's about time! Anime usually has more artistic value than most Western animation anyway.
