Finally, Maria Holic Anime Announced
Reportedly the upcoming issue of Newtype Magazine will include a confirmation that director Akiyuki Shinbo (Sayonara Zetsubo-sensei) and animation studio Shaft will produce an anime television series adaptation of Minari Endo’s romantic comedy manga series Maria Holic. The 2006 manga is the story of a high school girl with a phobia of males who enrolls in an all girls school, hoping to find a female romantic partner. Her ideal candidate turns out to be a cross-dressing boy.

Gekkan Shonen Champion magazine announced that Yuu Minamoto’s harem comedy manga series Asu no Yoichi! will be adapted into an anime television series. The series’ story revolves around a teen country boy that comes to the city to continue his martial arts training at dojo already home to four girls.

Megami Magazine reveals the development of “Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st”, a feature film based on the cult hit Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha television series franchise.

Reportedly Sakichi Sato will write, direct, and star in a feature film adaptation of female manga creator “George Asakura’s” romantic crime comedy manga series “Heibon Punch”. The film is scheduled to premier later this year.

The Spike television network has officially announced that Afro Samurai: Resurrection will premier on the network in January 2009. Samuel L. Jackson reprises his starring role as “Afro” while Yuri Lowenthal will again play Afro’s nemesis “Kuma”.

Tonari no 801-chan Anime Announced
The advertising obi on the new third volume of Ajiko Kojima’s Tonari no 801-chan manga reveals plans for the series to receive an anime adaptation next year. The best selling romantic comedy about a young adult “fujoshi” (female yaoi fan) and her otaku boyfriend was adapted into a live action straight-to-video-movie last year and has also been adapted into a shoujo manga by artist “Jin”.
XXXHOLiC OVA on 2009
Japanese bookstore Hoshino reports that the 14th volume of CLAMP’s XXXHOLiC manga series, scheduled for release on January 16, 2009, will be available in a limited edition that includes the first of two exclusive XXXHOLiC OVAs. More at: AN
