Second Wolf & Spice Series Announced
The official homepage for the Ookami to Koshinryo (Wolf & Spice) anime television series has announced development of a second TV series. The first series, based on the fantasy novels by Isuna Hasekura and Ju Ayakura, aired from January 8 to March 25, 2008. Brain’s Base (Baccano, Natsume Yujinchou) will take over animation duty for the second series.
Asura Cryin’ Anime Announced
During last weekend’s Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten (Dengeki Books’ Fall Festival) publicity event, an anime TV series adaptation of Gakuto Mikumo and Nao Watanuki’s light novel series Asura Cryin’ was formally announced. The novel series relates the story of a high school boy haunted by the ghost of a childhood girl friend.
Kurokami Anime Announced
Following several months of speculation and rumor, GanGan Magazine reportedly includes a confirmation that Sunrise will produce an anime adaptation of the popular supernatural action/fighting comic series Kurokami by Korean creators Dall-Young Lim & Sung-woo Park. The production will be directed by Tsuneo Kobayashi and will be on air on January 09.
Street Fighter IV Anime Trailer Released
The official Japanese homepage for Street Fighter IV now hosts a new, second 4 minute long anime trailer, this one starring Chun-Li.
Macross Frontier Movie Announced
The Macross Frontier television series concluded with an announcement of development of a Macross Frontier motion picture. Presumably the film will be a condensed and re-edited version of the TV series.
New Tales of Symphonia OVA Series Announced
The official Japanese Tales of Symphonia anime series homepage has formally announced development of a “Tales of Symphonia: Tethe’alla Chapter” OVA series sequel to the four episode video series from 2007, which was based on Namco’s popular “Tales of Symphonia” RPG.
Sunrise Announces SoreKake Girl Project
Anime studio Sunrise has announced development of its “Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo” project. The title “Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo” translates roughly as “Universe Girl” but seems obviously intended to parody “Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo,” The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Japanese fan site Moon Phase tentatively reports that the Sore wo Kakeru Shoujo project will include an anime television series.
Second Natsume Yujinchou Season
Reportedly the new issue of Monthly LaLa magazine includes a confirmation that a second season of the current Natsume Yujinchou anime television series will premier next January.
Kurosawa’s Final Script to be Animated
Reportedly, a multi-national production partnership will develop an animated feature film based on the late Oscar-winning director Akira Kurosawa’s final screenplay “The Mask of the Black Death”. Kurosawa and co-writer Masato Ide developed the “Black Death” script as an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1842 short story “The Masque of the Red Death,” moving the original story’s setting from medeval Europe to early 20th century Russia.
The animated film will be produced by Japanese companies Kurosawa Production and Lotus, American based companies Lexicon Film Entertainment & Harbor Light Entertainment, and Singapore based Upside Down Entertainment for release in 2010, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Kurosawa’s birth.
Gokudo no Shokutaku Movie Announced
Akita Shoten’s Play Comic magazine has announced that Ayumi Tachihara’s comedy manga Gokudo no Shokutaku (Yakuza’s Dining Table) will be adapted as live action film. Veteran period drama actor Ken Matsudaira will portray Raizo Kuji, a divorced, middle-aged yakuza boss who happens to be a food connoisseur.
Chocolate Underground Movie Announced
Yahoo Douga has announced that a theatrical movie version of the Chocolate Underground web anime series will premier next January. More at: AN
