Skull Hikaru Utada warns fans not to buy her album

Japanese singer Hikaru Utada has advised fans not to buy her 16-track “Utada the Best” album, produced by Universal Japan, when it goes on sale Nov 24.

She made the announcement via a Twitter message. The album is available for pre-order, but Utada said, “I don’t want to make fans pay for this because my heart is not in this release.

She added, “Anyone who wants to pre-order it, please hold off for now.”

A collection of singles will also be released on the same day from EMI studios, titled “Utada Hikaru Single Collection vol. 2.” Utada told fans that this release is the one she truly endorses, but added, “ I don’t think it’s a good thing that the production companies chose to release these albums on the same day.”

On Oct 25, she “tweeted” again, “I hate the idea of fans having to buy two similar products at the same time. So, the Hikaru collection gets my personal seal of approval.More at: JT

  2. Oh no!! Music companies forcing artists to do music something against their will...

I wonder how much scorn she will have to endure from her producers for what she has done...

Yeah, and it's really strange to see an artist asking fans not to buy a CD.

Or maybe there's something else going on so she wanted to get back are her music company or the producers too! Yeah it's weird but she just also seems to want another 15 minutes of fame! Or it will have the reverse affect and she'll get more people to buy the CD's.

Now I really want to know, how did sales for the two compare?

I wonder if she has issues with her label company or it is another label. I like her music.

    Not really...
Radiohead have told fans not to buy their 'Greatest Hits' album before as well, as it was released against their wishes by EMI and because "there's no purpose" in doing it.
