Miost Things Tolkien
Ever since I saw the first LOTR movie by Jackson I was intrigued, so summer came and I bought the second book for on my beach Holliday and was hooked.
I read the entire thing on vacation and the day after I returned home I went to a big store to buy the Trillogy, finished that in a matter of days, only stopping when my eyes were giving out on me.
For anyone that enjoyed the movies: read the book(s)! They are so much better. Especially in the second and third book.
Now I have to warn you though, the First book, even more then its movie counterpart is mostly setting the stage for events to come, and introducing us to the world of Middle Earth. Despite there being some action moments that were ommited or cut short in the movie.
But once you reach the second book, you will be dragged along ever faster like in a torrent, and by the third book you wont be willing to lay the book down. If you plan on watching the movies and reading the book, you better watch the movies first, because chances are you will dislike what happened to certain scenes from the book. And those that have watched the movies, read the third book!!! The Battle of the Pelenor/Minas Tirith is so much better in the book, many brave and great people die, making the whole battle far more epic and at the same time melancholik then the movies depiction. You really get the feeling that it is the end of an era, that despite the victory nothing will ever be the same again no matter what, because too many noble and good people have died.
The Hobbit
Actually written for his Children as a night time story, but very good, not as deep as LOTR but splendid in its own right.
If you like adventure stories with dwarves, trolls, orcs, elves and a dragon you should read it.
The Silmarillion
Think LOTR but with Elves in the role of humans.
If you like LOTR very much you should read this, but let me warn you! Because it was never completely finished byTolkien himself, and spans millenniums, with a great number of events and characters following each other fast it can be very difficult to follow. Most people I have spoken to agree on this: to really understand it you will have to read it twice at least.
Those that are willing to do so will discover a litterary gem of epic dimensions though, complete with a creation strory, war of gods and elves (and people), betrayal, love, lust, valor, great loss and sadness and true heroism.

Hahahaha! I wanted to read the series but I have to study a lot of words first~ I heard from my mum that a lot of characters didn't exist in the movie too...and they were amazing characters. And it's all good, 4me because like Indepence Day, it doesn't get on my nerves no matter how many times I watch it. Ooooh I have the unedited version too~
