I don’t know what’s become of Kiddy Grade 2. It’s probably reasonable to presume that only Gonzo's animaors know for certain the production status of this series.
It’s certainly more rare for a planned anime production to actually have animation produced but never finished, but that situation has occurred before as well.
But how much time passed between the public premier of the original Kiddy Grade promotional video and the debut of the animation proper, and the amount of time that has passed so far since the May 2007 release of the Kiddy Grade 2 pilot film. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find a specific release date for the original Kiddy Grade promo clip.
It may be too early to write off Kiddy Grade 2. For example, director Yasuomi Umetsu’s feature film Kiss and Cry was initially announced back in 2003, and it’s reportedly now tentatively due for official release in 2009. So it’s quite possible that work on Kiddy Grade 2 has been slow or delayed, but not canceled. Furthermore, the first Kiddy Grade television series is scheduled for Japanese DVD re-release beginning this month.
The new Japanese DVD release may renew interest in the series, or accompany a new announcement about Kiddy Grade 2. It’s also possible that Japanese consumer interest in the Kiddy Grade franchise has diminished to the extent that Gonzo no longer considers continuing the franchise economically viable. Perhaps last year’s Kiddy Grade movies didn’t perform as well as hoped.
So... there is nothing else but wait and hope this anime is made sooner rather than later. More at:AN
I liked the first season and was kinda looking forward to season 2, then I forgot about it after a while. Well I hope it's not canceled! I always enjoy watching a new season of a show I like.
