Akikan! Anime Adaptation Planned
An announcement has come to light that the Akikan! romantic comedy light novel series by author Riku Ranjo and illustrator Hiro Suzuhira will be adapted into anime. Akikan is the unlikely story of high school boy Kakeru Daichi, whose can of melon juice soda magically transforms into a human girl. Naturally, more “akikan” girls begin appearing, each of them needing to be infused with carbon dioxide from kissing to survive.
Shoujo Sect Anime Announced
Manga artist Kurogane Ken has announced that a three episode OVA adaptation of his 2004 two volume “yuri” erotic manga series Shoujo Sect is now in production. The first adults-only episode is scheduled for Japanese release on July 25th.
Second Cobra OVA Series Announced
The production of a 4 episode OVA series and a new television series commemorating the 30th anniversary of Buichi Terasawa’s Space Adventure Cobra manga series were announced in January. Japanese anime news website Anime! Anime! now reports that a second 2 episode OVA series will be released after the first OVA series and before the premier of the TV series.
Gackt’s Dog to Star in Anime
Japanese rock star Gackt’s pet long-coat chihuahua “Ener” will participate in the Japanese “Love Our Planet” campaign to promote environmental awareness. Ener, whose name comes from Gackt’s hope that his pet dog will bring “energy” to everyone, will be the star of the Ener’s Big Adventure” project that will include an anime, a picture book, and a blog.
Stan Lee to Co-Create “Hero Man” Anime
Newtype Magazine reports that American comic book creative legend Stan Lee and his company Pow! Entertainment will collaborate with anime production studio Bones (Fullmetal Alchemist, Wolf’s Rain) to produce an anime television series titled “Hero Man”.
AT-X Broadcasts New Anime Uncensored
Japanese anime news site Rakugakidou has confirmed that the Japanese satellite TV network AT-X has broadcast the first episodes of Code Geass: Lelouche of the Rebellion R2 and Kamen no Maid Guy uncensored while the terrestrial broadcasts on other networks were censored.
Beyblade to Return
The Nihon Keizai (Nikkei) newspaper has reported that Takara-Tomy has plans to revive its 1999 Beyblade franchise. A new Beyblade anime series will debut this summer, along with a new line of Beyblade toys that will hit Japanese stores in August.
Will the DVD Version Have More ToLOVEru?
The Japanese ToLOVEru Kousatsu blog has discovered that studio production model sheets for the current ToLOVEru anime television series clearly depict Lala’s nipples, fueling speculation that the Japanese DVD version episodes will be free of the Girls Bravo-style steam censoring used in the television broadcast.
Eureka 7 Movie Announced
Newtype Magazine says that animation studio Bones will produce a Eureka 7 motion picture. Reportedly the film’s storytelling will differ from the way Bones’ produced the Rahxephon movie. The Eureka 7 movie will still star TV series protagonists Renton and Eureka, but will introduce a new Eureka 7 “mythos.” More at: AN
